Heads up: Gumnutly is reader-supported. Some links on this site are, or may become, affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. How we make money
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Gumnutly (gumnutly.com) is operated by GENAZ PTE. LTD. (UEN 202517498Z), Singapore (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
We’ve written it with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) in mind, because many of our readers are in Australia. We also aim to meet Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012.
The short version
- You can read Gumnutly without telling us who you are.
- We collect only what we need: messages you send us, newsletter sign-ups (if you choose to subscribe), and basic analytics.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
- When you click through to a merchant, that merchant’s privacy policy applies to what happens on their site.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
What we collect
Information you give us – Contact form or email: your name, email address and message. – Newsletter (if offered): your email address, and the date and way you signed up. We don’t run a newsletter yet. If we start one, we’ll name the provider here first.
Information collected automatically – Analytics: pages visited, approximate location (country or city level), device and browser type, and how you arrived on the site. We don’t currently use a third-party analytics tool. If we add one, we’ll name it here. – Server logs: our host, Hostinger, keeps standard logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. – Fonts: our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and shares your IP address with Google. Affiliate links and cookies When you click an affiliate link, the merchant or affiliate network (for example Amazon, Rakuten Advertising for Etsy, or Commission Factory) may set a cookie on your device. The cookie lets them credit us if you buy something. We don’t receive your name or payment details from them, only aggregated or order-level reports with no information that identifies you. We don’t knowingly collect sensitive information, as defined by the Privacy Act, and we ask you not to send it to us.
Why we use it
- To reply to your messages.
- To send the newsletter, if you’ve asked for it.
- To understand which articles are useful and to improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and working.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don’t use your information for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Cookies
We don’t set analytics or advertising cookies ourselves. WordPress may set functional cookies (for example, to remember a preference), and merchants may set affiliate-tracking cookies on their own sites (as described above). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although affiliate commissions may not be tracked. ## Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the site, such as our host, our analytics provider, our email or newsletter provider and our form provider. We share it only as far as they need it to provide their service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Overseas disclosure (APP 8): we’re based in Singapore, and our service providers may store data in other countries, including Singapore, the United States, the European Union and Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers handle your information in line with the APPs.
We don’t sell or rent personal information.
How long we keep it
- Messages: up to 24 months after we last hear from you, unless we need them longer for a legal reason.
- Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep a record only so that we don’t email you again.
Keeping it secure
We use reputable providers, HTTPS across the site, and access controls on our accounts. No system is perfectly secure, though, so if we learn of a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we’ll notify affected people and regulators as the law requires. That includes the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme where it applies.
Your choices and rights
You can: – Ask to access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12). – Ask us to correct it if it’s wrong (APP 13). – Ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent to the newsletter by using the unsubscribe link in any email. – Stay anonymous or use a pseudonym when contacting us, where that’s practical (APP 2).
To make a request, use our contact page or email support@gumnutly.com. We’ll reply within 30 days.
Complaints
If you think we’ve mishandled your personal information, please contact us first, and we’ll try to sort it out. If you’re not happy with our response and you’re in Australia, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. In Singapore, the regulator is the Personal Data Protection Commission at pdpc.gov.sg.
Children
Gumnutly is written for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, please contact us and we’ll delete them.
Links to other sites
Our articles link to merchants, accommodation providers and tourism sites. Their privacy policies apply when you’re on their sites, not ours.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page if anything changes, and change the date at the top.
